Liposuction

For so many of our patients, staying active and enjoying a healthy lifestyle is a vital part of the Central Florida lifestyle. But regardless of how fit you are, you may find yourself with areas of stubborn fat that just don’t seem to budge. Depending on where it’s located, your trouble spot may actually affect the way you dress or cause you to feel self-conscious during certain activities.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Diaz specializes in liposuction at his Melbourne practice, and people come from Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Viera, and other area communities for the quality of care and results he provides.

Is Liposuction Right for You?

Dr. Diaz offers several distinct liposuction techniques, each with their own specific advantages and indications. One of the most appealing qualities of liposuction is the fact that it can be used throughout the body. Popular treatment areas include:

  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Inner or outer thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Flanks and waist
  • Neck and chin
  • Back, especially “bra bulge”

When administered by a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Diaz, liposuction can be safely performed and effective. However, the procedure simply isn’t appropriate for everyone who struggles with unwanted fat. People who are significantly overweight are typically not good candidates for liposuction since it’s not intended to be a large-volume fat reduction solution. Liposuction isn’t for weight loss, so it’s important to be as close as possible to a healthy, maintainable weight before your procedure.

During your consultation, you and Dr. Diaz will discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and any medications or supplements you’re presently using. He also evaluates your areas of concern to ensure that liposuction is the best possible choice for you. You may discover that a different body contouring option, such as tummy tuck or body lift, is a better choice for you. Liposuction can also be performed as a complementary adjunct to another surgery, such as breast augmentation, for a Mommy Makeover.

Your Liposuction Procedure

In our Melbourne office, liposuction is sometimes performed with local anesthesia with sedation, but may require general anesthesia. Either way, your procedure will be customized to maximize your comfort and safety.

Dr. Diaz takes a more subtle, artful approach to liposuction. He uses long thin wands to first loosen the fat before suctioning it away. Dr. Diaz sculpts and shapes the fat for a smoother, more balanced outcome.

Dr. Diaz also offers a form of liposuction called SAFELipo®. SAFELipo is an acronym that describes a three-step process of fat separation, aspiration, and fat equalization. It can be a more useful technique during revisionary procedures while avoiding the heat generated by other fat removal techniques. While it can be performed safely, it still carries inherent risk.

Your Recuperation & Results

Although you’ll need someone to drive you home after your liposuction procedure, you’ll likely be comfortable enough to move about the house shortly after you return home. The amount of time you’ll need to take away from the office depends on how extensive your procedure was and the areas treated, but most patients are comfortable getting back to work within 4 days.

You’ll need to wear a special compression garment during the initial healing process. This garment stays fully concealed under your clothes and supports your treated area while it heals. Dr. Diaz recommends lymphatic massage during the recuperation period to help reduce swelling and speed healing. His staff can recommend qualified, local massage therapists.

You should engage in only gentle, modified activities for about 6 weeks after your liposuction. At your 6-week follow-up appointment, Dr. Diaz will evaluate your recuperation and ensure you’re physically ready to safely return to exercise and other high-impact activities.

In the long term, the results of your liposuction procedure can endure indefinitely, especially if you stick with your regular healthy habits.

Let’s work together to bring out your beautiful body. Request your consultation online, or call Dr. Diaz’s office at (321) 951-2639 to book your appointment.
