The eyes are often the first features we notice in others. They can convey our emotions and reflect our personalities. Unfortunately, the delicate, thin skin around our eyes is especially susceptible to the signs of aging, such as sagging and wrinkling that can undermine the vibrant, youthful energy we feel inside. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Diaz uses blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, in Melbourne to help his patients from Kissimmee, St. Cloud, and the Space Coast of Florida renew their upper and lower eyelids for a reinvigorated, well-rested appearance that lasts for years.
Dr. Diaz approaches every aesthetic enhancement with compassion and care, revealing your unique beauty. To find out how eyelid surgery can improve your appearance, request a consultation online or call our office in Melbourne at

Eyelid surgery can have a transformative effect on the entire face. Concerns about the eyelids are often age-related, but some people have naturally downturned or sagging eyelids. Surgery on the upper lids, lower lids, or both can help remedy these concerns. You may be a candidate for blepharoplasty if you’re bothered by any of the following:
Excess skin of the upper eyelids, causing drooping and wrinkling
Vision impairment due to sagging skin or droopiness
Under-eye fat deposits that can cause bags or a puffy appearance
Dr. Diaz can help you determine whether you’re a candidate for eyelid surgery during your initial consultation. During this preliminary appointment, you and Dr. Diaz spend plenty of time discussing your health history, specific concerns, and desired outcomes.
In some cases, eyelid surgery may be covered, at least in part, by your private insurance provider. This is often the case when the upper eyelids droop enough to affect your vision. Insurance coverage may require documentation from your primary care provider or ophthalmologist. Contact your insurance company to learn more about your eligibility for coverage.

“Thank you so much for all the time and effort you gave me. Of course, thanks for the excellent results!”
Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your experience may vary.
Dr. Diaz usually performs upper eyelid surgery using local anesthetic, although some patients may opt to have light sedation. Lower eyelids can be performed with the upper eyelids, usually under general anesthesia in our exclusive and private Riverview Surgery Center.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. For the upper eyelids, Dr. Diaz hides the incisions within the natural crease of the lids. Once these incisions heal, they create small, fine scars that are practically invisible. For the lower lids, the incision is either just below the lower lashes or sometimes even within the eyelid itself, resulting in a faint scar that can blend easily within the lash line.
Depending on your concerns, Dr. Diaz may remove fat deposits, remove excess skin, or manipulate the underlying tissue around your eyes for a tighter, smoother result. He closes the incisions with sutures. On its own, blepharoplasty is typically a brief procedure, although it may be performed in conjunction with a facelift for overall rejuvenation.

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure. You will need a friend or loved one to drive you home and care for you for a few days.” Discomfort is quite manageable with prescribed medication and topical treatments. Most people feel comfortable enough to return to work and other social activities after about 1 week. By this time, Dr. Diaz will have removed your stitches, and you should notice a marked decrease in swelling and bruising. He will give you specific directions about when you can return to certain activities, such as wearing contact lenses or exercising.
In the long term, you can enjoy your results for many years by keeping your eyes and eyelids protected from the sun. Many of Dr. Diaz’s blepharoplasty patients are pleasantly surprised by how easy the process is, especially considering how much brighter and more alert their faces look afterward.
