Your Beautiful Body
Women and men visit Dr. Diaz near Orlando for liposuction to remove unwanted fat from areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. He also performs corrective surgery to improve the results of previous liposuction surgery, which can include additional liposuction, fat transfer to build up depressed areas, and removal or tightening of excess skin.
The technique Dr. Diaz chooses depends on each patient's overall health and skin tone in order to obtain a good result. Liposuction can be used in combination with other procedures such as a tummy tuck or body lift to help sculpt and shape the final result. Although significant amounts of fat can be removed for sculpting purposes, it is not a weight-loss technique.
Dr. Diaz answers common questions about liposuction in his Liposuction FAQs page. He will allow time to thoroughly answer your specific questions during your consultation as well.

What to Expect
Liposuction can be performed in an outpatient surgical facility under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. In some cases, a small amount of liposuction can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. Dr. Diaz prefers a technique referred to as "liposculpture." This technique uses long slender tubes called "cannulas" placed through small incisions. Anesthetic solution is injected which makes the procedure more comfortable and decreases bruising. The cannulas are then used to remove fat. Following the procedure you will be placed in a compression garment that is to be worn for about 4 weeks.
Dr. Diaz is the first to bring SAFELipo to Brevard County. SAFELipo is a technique originated by Dr. Simeon Wall of Shreveport, Louisiana, as a solution for the challenges of revision liposuction. This technique is now being employed as a primary way to reduce fat and improve contours. It is a comprehensive body reshaping technique that combines the benefits of liposuction, fat shifting, and fat grafting, while avoiding the thermal damage to skin layer that can be caused by ultrasound or laser techniques.
SAFELipo is an acronym for the steps of the procedure: Separation, Aspiration, and Fat Equalization.
- Separation: This step loosens, emulsifies, and separates the unwanted fat cells without generating heat, so essential blood vessels, skin, and other tissues are unharmed.
- Aspiration: Fat cells are gently removed through suction, without damaging supporting structures such as nerves, blood vessels, and skin.
- Fat Equalization: This step smoothes out the remaining thin fat layer, leaving behind a uniform layer of "local fat grafts" that prevents contour deformities from forming.
Once home you can be up and about immediately. Any discomfort you experience can be alleviated with prescription pain medication. You will be able to return to work when you feel comfortable enough to do so, usually in 3 to 4 days. You should avoid heavy lifting or pushing for 2 to 3 weeks. You should continue to wear your garment for 4 weeks. Full activity may be resumed after 6 weeks. Dr. Diaz recommends that all patients receive post-operative lymphatic massages as this speeds the resolution of swelling and can improve the final texture of your skin. It may take 6 weeks for the swelling to resolve.
