Abdominoplasty Can Shape Your Future

"Dr. Michael Diaz is amazing. At first, I considered him a highly skilled surgeon. Then as the post-operative swelling began to subside, I considered him a true surgical artist. Now, almost 3 months after the surgery, I am convinced he is an absolute medical magician. His consummate surgical skill, his warm and caring bedside manner, and stellar customer service is above all I have ever experienced in the medical community."*

"After 3 children, 2 weightloss surgeries, 1 emergency surgery and a 80 lb weight loss my abdomen was a mess! We won't even talk about the scars and stretch marks. I was ready to get rid of the excess skin and hope for a flatter tummy. The results were astounding! What stretch marks? What scars? Dr Diaz does amazing work, I couldn't have asked for a better outcome!"*

Is a Tummy Tuck Right for You?

Abdominoplasty—usually called a tummy tuck—is an excellent option for women and men with specific concerns about the appearance of their midsections. People who can benefit from a tummy tuck are in good overall shape but have excess abdominal skin because of significant weight loss or previous pregnancy.

A tummy tuck is not weight loss surgery. You should be at or near the weight you want to maintain for several months before scheduling your procedure.

“Dr. Diaz preformed a tummy tuck with lipo on me in Feb and I cannot say enough about my experience as well as my results with Dr. Diaz. From the time you walk in the door you are treated like family, not just another patient and not just another number. From my consultation to my final post op appointment everything was simply amazing. Dr. Diaz was extremely attentive, patient and attended every one of my appointments.”*

What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

A mini tummy tuck is a more conservative approach that’s appropriate for patients whose concerns are limited to the area below the bellybutton. They’re most effective if you are at a weight you intend to maintain, but you have a small belly pooch.

A mini tummy tuck incision is also made just above the pubic area but is shorter than a full tummy tuck incision.

Tummy Tuck FAQs

What should I expect during recovery after a tummy tuck?

Each patient’s recovery is unique and depends on the specific procedure performed and how quickly they heal. We encourage patients to move around on the day of surgery and continue taking short walks around the home to encourage blood circulation. That said, getting plenty of rest is crucial. Dr. Diaz offers patients the option of having EXPAREL®—a long-lasting anesthetic—used during surgery.

Can I combine a tummy tuck with other procedures?

Yes, women often combine tummy tuck surgery with cosmetic breast enhancement after having children. The so-called Mommy Makeover can help restore a patient’s pre-pregnancy shape. Liposuction is also often included with a tummy tuck to remove pockets of excess fat.

What are the risks of tummy tuck surgery?

As with any surgery, there is a small risk of bleeding and infection. Dr. Diaz minimizes these risks by using meticulous surgical techniques. In addition, there is a small risk of blood clots in the legs or lungs. Dr. Diaz has had an excellent track record for safety throughout his career.

Other Types of Tummy Tuck

As the name implies, an extended tummy tuck involves areas that extend beyond the abdomen. Dr. Diaz may recommend this approach for patients with excess skin and fat on their hips and lower back.

Other options include a circumferential incision for removing and lifting the skin around the entire trunk and the fleur-de-lis tummy tuck to address excess skin on the upper abdomen. These less common incision patterns are usually indicated for patients who have undergone a significant weight loss.
